Community-based advisory groups

Provider Advisory Committee

This committee, comprised of 25 members, represents the overall health services constituency, from hospitals and health centers to physicians and other providers. Members of the Committee serve without compensation and meet on a quarterly basis. The Committee may conduct studies, publish reports and issue recommendations to the Health Authority Board of Directors. Specific activities include:

Provide input to working groups of the Health Authority concerning development and ongoing activities of the Health Authority.
Receive comments from the broader provider constituency in the Health Authority’s planning process.
Serve as a conduit of information for the Health Authority to the broader provider community.

Community Advisory Committee

Representatives of community organizations in Detroit and Wayne County comprise the Community Advisory Committee. The 25-member committee, which meets quarterly, includes individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, businesses, labor, community organizations, faith-based organizations, and users of health care services. Members serve without compensation. Specific activities include:

Provide input to working groups of the Health Authority concerning activities of the Health Authority.
Receive comments from the broader community and assist in engaging the community in the Health Authority’s planning process.
Serve as a conduit of information for the Health Authority to the broader community.

Primary Care Network Council

Given that primary care services represent the foundation of the safety net, the Primary Care Network Council offers a forum to discuss issues that affect their mission and ways of improving the safety net. The Council also serves as a support group, with staff liaison from the Health Authority, providing other members assistance as needed. The Council advises the Health Authority on new services needed in the safety net.
The council may take on an initiative to resolve a particular issue, such as the closure of Detroit Riverview Hospital. The Council established the East Side Initiative to assess the needs and develop a plan for resolving the health care crisis in that area of Detroit.

The Primary Care Network Council meets quarterly at the Health Authority offices.

Obesity Task Force Hosts National Expert on Childhood Obesity
DETROIT - Adam Becker, PhD, MPH, Executive Director, Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), will be the presiding speaker for the “Childhood Obesity Planning Summit,” scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to noon, at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s Detroit Tower, 600 East Lafayette, Detroit. Free parking will be provided in the Blue Cross parking structure.
